Viticcio Chianti Classico Riserva 2006, Tuscany, Italy

The sensuous nose alone tells me this should be really good, with aromas of dark berry fruit, sour cherries, plums, pepper, new leather, cedar and savoury notes. On the mouthfeel, medium bodied (alcohol at 13.5%) with rich and spicy flavours, lively acidity and very fine grain tannins.  The finish is long, bright with spicy sweet and sour flavours and fine ripe tannins. This Chianti Classico Riserva is a blend of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Merlot, and is deserving of its # 35 on Wine Spectator top 100 in 2009. Beautiful classic Chianti Classico simply does not get any better. A bit expensive, almost Brunello price territory here. Superb food wine, score 92 points.

This wine was purchased September 18, 2010 LCBO New Release at $34.95.
